Those who knows me well will admit that I rarely, if ever, use profanity in my day to day speech (Okayla..there was that one time when I called a tourist an a****** for not queing at a ticket counter at the Genting outdoor theme-park, but at the time she was really acting like a super b**** and I was merely articulating a widely-acceptable tired-mom point of view).

If using profanity is one of the Seven Deadly Sins, I'd be feeling pretty good about myself now. Sadly, it's not. In fact, I just googled "Seven Deadly Sins and expletive hurling is nowhere in the list.

And, of the seven..I'm pretty sure I've broken at least one in the last 24 hours (refer to previous posting = Wrath?)

Truth is, I just found out how bitter and toxic relatives can be.

As they say, you can pick a nose or a new pair of boobs but you can't choose family.

I read that toxic people can be more than wolves in sheep's clothing. Toxic people drain us, they suck out the juice from our life. They tear us down with their words, actions and negative energy.

Toxic people refuse to see that their behaviour is causing problems or that they are crossing boundaries with their behaviour. They often blame you for their actions, deny their actions or finagle their way around the topic.

I'm not gonna elaborate further about the agony or mental pain that toxic relatives have brought upon us because it is so not me. Plus it is just not worth it.

A particular toxic relative did that. In her blog posts, she belittled, degraded and devalued my mom - the one person I love dearly. And to think I used to carry her around when she was a baby!

Had I known she would grow up to be an attention-seeking b****, I should have just thrown her out of a moving car then! Huh.

Anyways, I hope she and her kuncu-kuncu get what they deserve. soon.

Meantime, I'm looking forward to destress via a good swim this Sunday, here.

This year's HRI:UNArts holiday message is "Focused on Progress by Bridging Unmet Needs to Untapped Resources in our communities." Please reach out to your family, friends, neighbors and front line service programs, define their unmet needs and be a part of solution oriented strategic planning and development of efforts that can help. Many times, just disclosure of a need can help those who have the resources, move them into action. 

During this next year, the Humanitarian Resource Institute United Nations Arts Initiative, will be working to establish grassroots organizers to specifically target the scope of unmet needs in a community or region.... This means 3100 U.S. counties, 50 states and territories, 192 United Nations member countries. The arts community will be the source for intensive facilitation, communications initiatives, media events, and performances. More to come.

In contemplation of the years challenges (unarts.org/news) and the motto "Work Hard, Play Hard," I arranged 7 high energy soundtracks in an album compilation entitled "Rocked" - Xmas 2009, available to radio stations on AirPlay Direct (tracks streaming online for all in continual play format).

San Francisco, CA - December 23, 2009 - The well-known classic "Amazing Grace" experienced a holiday makeover by visionary musicians Ann Licater and Jeff Oster. The San Francisco-based musicians collaborated to create a completely new rendition of one of the world's best-known songs. Unclassifiable as either Jazz, World, Christian or New Age music exactly, the track is finding a wide audience during its Holiday 2009 release as a 99-cent digital download exclusively on CDBaby (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/licateroster ) and iTunes. Licater explains, "Jeff (Oster) and I were originally inspired to create this rendition of ‘Amazing Grace' for consideration in the 2009 presidential inauguration; to us the Native American flute represented the heart of the people and the Flugelhorn really conveyed the honor and heraldry of the occasion."

The song stayed in the artists' hearts and minds all year long, seeming to beckon for a Holiday release. Although the musicians are both working on producing their next albums, they felt compelled to share the song with the world this year, rather than hold it for inclusion on future albums. Hymns and holiday music traditionally receive a boost at the holidays, and at just 99 cents on CDBaby.com, the download is priced right for sales during a recession-riddled holiday. The duo intends to employ a completely online "green marketing" approach to promoting the track, hoping fans will love it enough to pass it on to family and friends.

Jeff and Ann began their collaboration in 2007, when they noticed each other's music being reported by broadcasters worldwide. Tracks such as "Saturn Calling" (Oster's tribute to N.A.S.A.) and "Following the Call" (Licater's title track about pursuing artistic dreams) were being played back-to-back and in the same programming schedules on radio stations around the globe. When they eventually met on MySpace and discovered they both live in the San Francisco Bay Area, their real-time collaboration began.

Their curiosity prompted them to explore the question "Flugelhorn with Native American Flute…why not?" Their music styles, although divergent, have a connection of spirit through a common improvisational nature of playing. In fact, the arrangement of "Amazing Grace" emerged during improve in their initial joint concert, immediately striking them both as a meaningful musical gift.

Ever since their first meeting, they continue to perform together as guest artists at each other's concerts, such as the INAFA conference at the University of Wisconsin/Eau Claire. 

Their digital release of "Amazing Grace" is being promoted to radio by KDM Promotions. Both Ann and Jeff's music is heard on NPR stations on shows like "Echoes" and "Hearts of Space," as well as on cable and internet radio stations worldwide.

About the Artists:
Ann Licater is a Native American and World Flutist. She is a former student of R. Carlos Nakai, a recording artist, featured performer at the World Flute Fest at Carnegie Hall, and a San Jose Chamber Orchestra soloist as a world flutist. She facilitates healing workshops for Kaiser Permanante Wellness Centers and holds an M.L.A. in Spirituality. Her CD "Following the Call," solo wood and clay flute music was nominated "Best Native American Album" and "Top Twelve Best Contemporary Instrumental Album" of 2007 in the NAR Lifestyle Music Awards. After a few brisk days and scraping ice off my windshield in the morning the temps are warming up.

We didn't have freezing temps but I covered some of my plants to keep them safe and warm, however one of the neighborhood cats or a stray decided to leave its scent on two of the covers so I tossed them, its quite irritating, last year the cats were using several of my pots for a litter box so later today its off to the sporting goods store for some large animal scent to keep the kitties away kind of marking my territory, and if that doesn't work I am thinking bear trap. (just kidding) a wolf trap will do just fine.

This year is fast coming to an end and we are gifted with a Blue Moon on the 31^st a fitting end to 2009.

I am giving thought to the things I want to accomplish personally in 2010, writing up a list of the things I need to change, and purge and add to my life,  if there are items still left undone from '09 I will review those and decide if completing them would add to my quality of life.

The one thing I plan to add to the new year new me list is to once again read authors I have never read before, if memory serves I wanted to read at least 7 new authors this year, I am happy to say I read over 20 new authors in 2009, a combination of fiction and non-fiction books. So this year I will make my goal number 12.

I was finally able to get a flu shot today I was picking up a few things at Walgreen's and right there in front of my face was a big yellow sign FLU SHOTS TODAY,

I don't know whether its allergies, my living space or stress but there have been too many days I feel under the weather and icky.

I have a few ideas I am working through in my head involving a new personal walking program I will post more about that into the new year.

There is a revolution taking place in South Florida's film industry. Sky Hi Studios, the little studio that could, is offering its full green screen chroma key film studio to the film and production community for as little as $25 per hour, including lights. This ridiculously low price is virtually unheard of in the film industry. Typically film studios rent for upwards of $1,000 per day and more and that does not include lights. Additionally you have to pay extra for the green backdrop. This revolutionary offering has already made a big difference for many production companies and aspiring filmmakers in South Florida over the past year. Sky Hi also rents professional HD cameras for as little as $50 a day, which is less than one fourth the cost of a typical camera rental house.

Sky Hi Studios has played host to Power 96's DJ Laz and their 411-Pain client. Other celebrity clients include Get Radio Tag out of New York and their client, local fighting sensation Kimbo Slice. Morehead Productions brought an SUV into the studio to film portions of a movie that they are working on, and The Witness Project flew in from Detroit, Michigan to film the music video Fly Away that will be airing in heavy rotation on MTV Europe. There have been a number of music videos filmed at Sky Hi Studios including videos for Da Pretty Boyz, Qilo and Nicoi El Travieso.

In addition to producing TV commercials, Sky Hi Studios helps their client place their advertisement on television locally and nationally. They work closely with the client to create and build a set for the production when one is required within the client's budget. Sky Hi Studios also works closely with the client to help them reap the maximum benefit from their commercial, music video or other production by placing the video on all of the popular social networking sites including MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Sky Hi Studios also rents its studio to bands and dance groups as a rehearsal spot.
